Abstract

This thesis examines representations of body and territory in Colombian cinema of the last decade, through a comparative analysis of the narrative elements of two movies: Oscuro Animal (2016), directed by Felipe Guerrero, and Monos (2019), directed by Alejandro Landes. The main argument is that, in these films, there is a parallelism between the female body and the territory, since both are rendered as objects to be conquered and dominated. By way of this analysis, this thesis reflects on the way in which cinema can help us to explore the history and take the necessary distance to critically understand the political, ethical and cultural environment in which Colombian war has unfolded.
