The aim of this thesis is to describe how the audiovisual narrative, more specifically the new Mexican documentary, can be an instrument of ethical approach to social questions and issues related to strong moral prejudices, such as grief, loss, and victimization. Through an analysis of three sequences of three different contemporary Mexican documentaries it is possible to approach the perspective of how these documentaries represent and reflect in their aesthetics the social topics they depict, the ethical notions of their content, which deals with the sorrow and grief over missing people. Through interviews of the filmmakers of these documentaries, the thesis also presents the main aesthetic – how the films have been made and what is their style of representation – perspectives and their formation.
