Abstract

Using concepts of Sound Narrative and dramatic beats, an analysis of how these are supported by sound, focusing in the final mixing process, is presented, applied to the Coen brothers’ films: “No conutry for old men” and “Barton Fink”. For a more detailed analysis of the influence the mix has in the emotional perception of the film, topics like, construction of the soundtrack and the different sources of sound involved are also addressed. The interaction of the soundtrack with the narrative, dramatic beats and emotional states is reviewed in detail for two sequences of the films.
