Abstract

A directorial choice to abandon one established cinematic tool – editing – is challenging and inspiring at the same time. In this research report, I am going to discuss the functions of editing that in the one-shot film need to be compensated using different cinematic tools in order to create a comprehensive film. The editing functions discussed are following: suspension of disbelief, rhythm cycles of tension and release, directing audience’s attention inside the frame instead of cutting. Through the angle of perception psychology I have explained the need for editing functions in order to maintain the illusion of film and compensate the lack of editing.
