This thesis examines the relationship between cinematography and Luminism that deals with light as a main element of expression. The project brought to life the notion that these two artists are related throughout the history of art and cinema. A clear connection has been reinforced by many contemporary and historical examples that bridged them together. Through theory, cinema, video projection and sculpture, this research discerned major themes throughout a number of artists’ works and their intentions. My studio practice as a cinematographer enabled me to understand the history and applications of light art in cinema and specifically fiction films.
