Abstract

Dynamic range is the variation in loudness in audio. This paper aims to unravel the meaning and emotional impact this variation has on the audience in the context of film. By referring to studies conducted on the psychological, physiological and social effects of dynamic range on humans, the paper sheds light on the emotional effects of dynamic range. On the other hand, the linguistic framework of pragmatics is used to uncover the meaning.
