The discussions about topics on representation, colonial and post-colonial perspective in filmmaking and the depiction of family on the national level in many African countries are broad and revealing. Religion and tradition play major defining role in how the Ghanaian family is shown in contemporary cinema. The changing nature of the film industry has affected the fundamental essence of the films produced and the lack of expansion of the industry. To understand African cinema is to interrogate issues of ideology, narrative, aesthetics, the economics of ownership and the social value of the cinematic product.
